Love and Forgiveness

It is so easy to have a misconception of what love really looks like. We all have different definitions of what love looks like, and they all tend stem from whatever makes us feel good.

But as Christians we have been given a new definition of love!

"This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends." John 15:12-13

We are called to be selfless and giving of ourselves. The world says love is to make you feel good. But we are called to love in way that is willing to sacrifice everything, even our very lives, for the sake of our brothers in Christ.

What would Jesus think of us, when we are not even willing to let go of our pride for the sake of loving our fellow brothers and sisters within the Body? It's is a shame and something we should feel immensely grieved about.

When I have been hurt by someone I am tempted to stop showing love to them. I begin to think "me me me" instead of forgiving that person, thanking God for them and praying for them.

When you cannot forvige others you are blocking off a path on which you also must cross. Everyone needs forgiveness.

"And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses." -Mark 11:25-26

When you are in a room that is dark during the day time, you waist energy trying to turn on all the lights inside. All you must do to make the darkness vanish is open the curtians and let the sun in!

"He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness" -1 John 2:9

God brought into our hearts His love through the Holy Spirit! His love in us is victorious over our unforgiveness.

"'Be angry, and do not sin': do not let the sun go down on your wrath" -Ephesians 4:26

When you are angry you are giving a mighty foothold to the devil. Jesus is able and willing to fill our hearts with His love! When your heart is filled with God's love there is no room for the darkness of resentment and un forgiveness.

The Bible has much to say about loving one another!
• "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." -1 Corinthians 13:4-7

• "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" -Psalm 133:1

• "I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." -Ephesians 4:1-3

• "And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing." -1 Corinthians 13:3

• "But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them." Luke 6:32

• Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. -1 John 4:7

It is such a blessing to be able to bring our anger immediately to the Lord!

Excellent scriptures. I am a pretty selfish person, so the biblical definition of love is hard for me. But that's where God's grace comes in! It is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me.
